Not cake - for those of you who get the inside joke.
Maybe it had something to do with my grandmother's death recently, as she was a phenomenal baker who included something from the oven with every meal. Maybe it had something to do with the fact I fancy myself a pseudo-gourmet and haven't had the time to cook a good meal in the last month. Maybe it was the lazy dayz of summer. Maybe it was all the happiness swirling around Laramie with the first WET spring in something like 5-7 years. Maybe it was a combination of, or all, of these things. But for whatever reason I decided last night I must BAKE. My favorite thing to bake is my Mother's bread recipe. Few people hate it, and when paired with grandma's cabbage bun recipe it is absolutely delightful. Being REALLY in the mood, I tripled the recipe. My Kitchen-aid mixer almost couldn't handle the sheer volume (the specs say it is deigned to handle 4 loafs of bread, I had at least 5).
I have 3 bakery size loafs, one half loaf, and made 18 cabbage rolls. MMMM MMM good!
I am so happy that right now, I can go home after work and not worry about doing some kind of homework, mandatory reading, travel, or anything. I am really enjoying just being home.
